Type 1 Fast Landing Ship

BackMain MenuForward

IJN Yasoshima

This is actually the type 1 first class landing ship No. 11 sinking off Leyte on December 7, 1944. However, two ships of this class, No. 6 and No. 10, were sunk on November 25, 1944 by carrier based aircraft off Marinduque Island in the Central Philippines. Their sinking looked much like this. With the American submarines sinking several additional transports and a destroyer, the Japanese Navy lost heavily that day. By the end of 1944 it had virtually ceased to exist as a coherent fighting force. Click on the image to enlarge.
