Bow of IJN KUmano

IJN Kumano's forward section, showing her triple 6" gun turrets prior to her 1939 renovation that replaced the 6" guns with dual 8" turrets, turning her into a heavy cruiser. The bow was blown off during the Battle off Samar during the invasion of Leyte by a torpedo from American destroyer USS Johnston (DD-557) on October 25, 1944. Click on the image to enlarge.
