Two days before the kamikaze strike, USS Cabot (CVL-28) crewmen enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner. Thanksgiving was one of a few holidays allowed during wartime. A special roast turkey dinner was served. The men were often served the same food regularly, but it was much better than the Japanese, who had starvation rations everywhere due to the submarine blockade of Japan.
Two days later, thirty-five crewmen who had enjoyed the special Thanksgiving turkey dinner were dead.
